Concert Review:: Eric Roberson at The Xclusive Entertainment Center

Two time Grammy Nominated R&B artist Eric Roberson performed with his band before a mature eclectic crowd on Friday, January 10th at the Xclusive Lounge in Columbus, Ohio.  Eric Roberson (or Erro) is an artist, producer and songwriter from Rahway, New Jersey whose smooth and soulful sound can be likened to Peabo Bryson.  Hailed as the `King of Independent Music’, Eric has produced 7 albums during his long career, with two upcoming releases for 2014 (When Love Calls and B-Sides and Features & Heartaches).   Eric is known for his beautiful lyrics, falsetto ballads and dynamic performances, which transports die-hard fans into altered states of musical consciousness. With each performance Eric vows to earn the appreciation, praise and full attention of his audience.  Having experienced other Eric Roberson performances, in both intimate and theatre venues, I felt that once again the crowd was in for an engaging treat.

Nas produces hip hop documentary ''Shake The Dust

After watching the trailer, I can see why Nas decided to executive produce this documentary by journalist Adam Sjoberg. He is hip hop. Spanning across four countries, this film shares just how universal not only hip hop, but the art of break dancing is.

“What these kids are doing around the world reminds me why I fell in love with hip-hop and how important it is as a creative and constructive outlet,” Nas said in a statement. “After hearing Adam’s vision for this project and hearing the stories, I was incredibly excited to help bring the film to global audiences who need to hear this surprising message of empowerment.”

Concert Review:: The Shilohs at Natalie's Coal-Fired Pizza

Last night, as I’m watching four slightly rumpled guys from Vancouver, BC called the Shilohs, I found myself wondering, what exactly is a Shiloh?  I thought of ‘Til Shiloh, Buju Banton’s 1995 album which embodied a kind of spiritual awakening and move from dancehall to roots reggae for that currently incarcerated Jamacian bad bwoy and then I vaguely recalled a grade school reference to a US Civil War battle.  And wasn’t there a movie in the 80’s about a dog named Shiloh and a boy?  Then I tried to think about how listening to this band makes me feel and connecting these concepts became a bit of a stretch for a one-very-strong-Caipirinha-in Wednesday night.  So, I decided to just enjoy.

New Ledisi song "I Blame You" celebrates good love

With her incredible and soulful voice, Ledisi sings about good love and good times. Instead of blaming someone for the wrong, she flips the script and thanks the special someone for the smiles and possibility of believing in love again.

"It''s about a relationship and you''re excited about the person making you excited about you, again. So, you''re blaming that person for bringing some light into your life. "I Blame You" gives you insight to the honesty and the sensuality to what is to come," Ledisi told Essence magzine.

[August 28th] David Murray Infinity Quartet with Macy Gray will be performing at Shadowbox Live

David Murray invites Macy Gray, the soul music star (more than 14 million albums sold), to sing in his Big Band and with his new Infinity Quartet. For her, he writes a new repertory that includes famous soul hits from Macy Gray, and brings to them new sharp and bright arrangements.
