Album Review:: SWV - I Missed Us

Wow!  Who would''ve thought it''s been 15 years since SWV has recorded an album.  The fact that I am recalling anything from 15 years ago is depressing itself... Yep showing my age.  I guess Tamara "Taj" Johnson, needed something to occupy her time what with marrying Heisman Trophy winner Eddie George and being a cast away on the television game show "Survivor".  It''s also probably worth mentioning that lead singer Cheryl "Coko" Clemons went off on a solo career after the group broke up and even dropped a Gospel album in 2006 called "Grateful". Leanne "Lelee" Lyons had a bit of a rougher time after the group disbanded and found herself homeless for a time.

D'Angelo Plugs In For GQ magazine

D''Angelo, now picking strings in a candid video for GQ magazine.

Micheal "D''Angelo" Archer gives his first interview in 12 years, and this is definitely a must read. He talks about what happened that made him decide to get clean, preparing for his new album, and how forceful Madonna was trying to get his attention, even calling her rude at one point.

Regarding Madonna:

When Madonna turned 39, she asked him to sing “Happy Birthday” at her party. One press report had her sitting on his lap and French-kissing him. In fact, two sources say that ultimately D rebuffed her advances at another gathering not long after. At that event, the sources say, Madonna walked over and told a woman sitting next to D, “I think you’re in my seat.” The woman got up. Madonna sat down and told him, “I’d like to know what you’re thinking.” To which D replied, “I’m thinking you’re rude.”

Album Review:: Rapper Big Pooh - Dirty Pretty Things

"Rapper Big Pooh gets honest on "Dirty Pretty Things"

When it comes to Rapper Big Pooh, he has always been underrated as well as underappreciated. Not helping matters was his stint in the trio Little Brother, where a lot of fans saw him as the odd man out. While 9th Wonder and Phonte were praised endlessly for their artistry, Big Pooh was frequently singled out for his passive aggressive style of rhyming. Undaunted by the criticism, he released his remarkable solo debut "Sleepers". For as much as he wanted to avoid the rumors, the critique was still getting to him. He addressed the issue of his talent on his lone solo track "Sincerely Yours" on Little Brother''s sophomore album "The Minstrel Show". Ironically, what he lacked in phrasing made up for him being great at being honest, confessional and pensive. While 9th Wonder''s departure cast a huge shadow on their third effort "Getback", a lot of people failed to notice that he had greatly improved since then. In 2009, he released his sophomore effort- the somewhat lackluster "The Delightful Bars". By the time 2010 came around, Little Brother would release what became their swan song "Getback" and they parted ways shortly thereafter.

Album Review:: Georgia Anne Muldrow - Seeds

Georgia Anne Muldrow gets help from Madlib on "Seeds"

If there is one thing to be said about Georgia Anne Muldrow, it''s her talent from being creative as well as prolific. She''s released a series of albums starting with the "Worthnothings" EP- quickly followed by her debut "Olesi: Fragments Of An Earth" in 2006. The following year, she released an experimental album under the pseudonym Pattie Blingh "Sagala". A couple of years later, she followed it up with her sophomore effort "Usimodo" which was released under her own name. She followed those albums with the compilation "Ms. One" as well as 2010''s "King''s Ballad". She took a different approach on her next recordings- her instrumental album "Ocotea" released under the pseudonym Jyoti and paid tribute to her mother Rickie Byars-Beckwith on "Owed To Mama Rickie". In between that time, she released several albums with her partner Dudley Perkins and appeared on a few high profile albums. She made an appearance on Mos Def''s "The Ecstatic" on "Roses" (which was really him ad-libbing on her previously recorded song from several months prior). She also appeared on both of Erykah Badu''s "New Amerykah" albums- appearing on and producing "Master Teacher" on "4th World War" as well as producing the ten minute ballad "Out My Mind, Just In Time" from "Return Of The Ankh".
